I’d almost forgotten about the storming of Area 51, so when I saw this on my trip down the Extraterrestrial Highway, I had to look into it.
As it turns out, no one stormed it, but a lot of people did approach the gates of Area 51 trailed by law enforcement personnel. Inspired by Joe Rogan’s 2019 interview with the former Area 51 employee who gave us the Black Mailbox, a student from California created a Facebook event to storm Area 51. Within days, a million or so had committed to attending, authorities were concerned, the student had a visit from the FBI, and three separate “storm” events were planned. Wild stuff.
